Introducing AlternativeChoice.net

Alternative Choice aims to be the central platform for promoting and organizing political transformations in America. We achieve this by fostering adynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives among individuals and groups representing diverse political viewpoints.

About the Founder

My name is Sean Cotter, and I am the founder of AlternativeChoice.net. With a lifelong passion for politics and a firm belief in the institutions of our government, I identify as a moderate, slightly right-of-center. I have campaigned and voted for candidates in both major parties. For years, I contemplated running for office or starting a political endeavor. Now, in my semi-retirement, I am dedicated to positively impacting America through AlternativeChoice.net.

Where Are We Currently?

As I write this on August 23, 2024, our nation is in turmoil amidst a presidential election campaign. The two major parties bypassed real primaries, with nominations secured long before the first votes were cast. For too many voters, the prospect of another Biden – Trump match-up was just as disappointing as the 2016 Hillary Clinton – Trump matchup. Since President Biden was forced out of the race, the voters are now more engaged.

Most of the incumbent candidates will, and most of the voting public will not be any more satisfied with the results than they have been in the past. This is because of the closed primary system we have in America. Candidates are encouraged to keep the primary voting base happy, who tend to be more extreme in their views because most political seats are not competitive. They tend to be solid Republican or solid Democrat. If you win the primary, you will most likely win the election. We need to change the type of candidates who get elected.

Changing Who Gets Elected

We envision achieving this through two approaches:

1.     Reforming the Primary System: We support efforts to implement Final Five nonpartisan primaries with Ranked Voting, ensuring more representative candidate selection.

2.     Establishing a New Party: We aim to create a third party focused on moderate voters. Unlike previous attempts, such as the Reform Party or single-issue parties like the Green Party, our goal is not to win the White House or dominate Congress. Instead, this party will never support a presidential candidate, nor seek a majority in any legislative body. Our focus will be on having just enough seats to influence key decisions.

Other Advantages

By not targeting the presidency or legislative majorities, we can focus on achievable goals and incremental improvements. Our role as a legislative "referee" to promote better governance and multiparty cooperation. Additionally, by not supporting candidates from other parties, we maintain our independence and avoid being coopted by a larger party.

What Can You Expect From Us?

We will highlight critical issues neglected by current politicians, including national debt, infrastructure, immigration, and artificial intelligence. Our advocacy will focus on meaningful reforms in candidate selection, legislative processes, and civil discourse. With the support of many dedicated individuals, we are poised to achieve significant progress. Join us on this exciting journey to make a real difference in America's political landscape.
